How to dissolve Salty Shrimp Sulawesi Mineral 8.5

The most popular remineralizer for Sulawesi shrimp, Salty Shrimp Sulawesi Mineral 8.5, is notorious for being hard to dissolve in water and frankly, it really is.

We tried three methods of dissolving it, and here are our results:

Test #1: Microwave

For this test, we put 1 cup (8oz) into a microwave with 3g of Sulawesi mineral 8.5, for 2 minutes to make the water really hot.

During this test, it almost boiled over a few times in the microwave at around 1:25, we repeated a few times, when we determined it should be finished, we took the boiling mixture out, and proceeded to pour it into our 10 gallons of clean RO water.

Hour 1: TDS 63, milky white water with stirred up water.

Day 1: TDS 65, water is still a milky white

Day 2: TDS 65 still, murkiness is disappearing, a thin layer of undissolved Sulawesi mineral coats the bottom.

Day 3: TDS 69, put in a powerhead to stir the mixture around, there is now a nice layer of mineral coating the bottom like snow.

Day 6: TDS 73, doesn't seem to be dissolving at all, we'll check back in a few days.

Week 2: TDS 74, Didn't dissolve enough, a white layer coats the entire bottom.

In conclusion, this method is not practical and only works for some lucky people

Test #2: Boiling Water

For this test, we put 2 cups (16oz) into a pot with 3g of Sulawesi mineral 8.5, until the mixture boiled, and stayed boiling.

During this test, we boiled the water for a long period of time, adding RO as water evaporated. When we determined it should be finished, we took the boiling mixture out, and proceeded to pour it into our 10 gallons of clean RO water.

Hour 1: TDS 76, milky white water with stirred up water.

Day 1: TDS 76, water is still a milky white

Day 2: TDS 77, still murky, a thin layer of undissolved Sulawesi mineral coats the bottom.

-- It seems the murkiness fades as the mineral settles so the milky mixture is simply undissolved mineral

Day 3: TDS 82, put in a powerhead to stir the mixture around again, there is now a nice layer of mineral coating the bottom like snow again.

Day 6: TDS 85, doesn't seem to be dissolving at all, we'll check back in a few days again. We set a second pot aside and after 2 hours the boiled mineral did not dissolve

Week 2: TDS 86, Didn't dissolve enough, a white layer coats the entire bottom again.

In conclusion, this method is not practical and does not work for the average person.

Test #3: Co2 via. SodaStream

For this test, we put 1 liter of RO water into the SodaStream Machine, and carbonated it 2x @ 3 seconds each

After it was fully carbonated, we poured it into our 10 gallons of clean RO water jugs with a lid on top, then added Salty Shrimp. Shook it up for 10 seconds, and set it down to rest.

Hour 1: TDS 63, pretty clear with the exception of a little dust

Hour 6: TDS 89, water is clearing

Hour 12: TDS 115, almost there!

Hour 16: TDS 143, complete!

In conclusion, this method is easy and practical and works for the average person.
